Peak Season Picks - Pears

HOME
Pears are one of the few fruits that do not ripen successfully on the tree. Instead, they're harvested by hand at maturity to begin the ripening process.

 SELECTING YOUR PEARS:

  • Choose a pear that is bright with no bruises or external damage.
  • Pears, other than Bartletts, do not dramatically change color as they ripen.
  • Press gently near the stem; if it gives, the pear is sweet, juicy and ready to eat.

 STORING YOUR PEARS:

  • If pears aren't ripe, store them in the open at room temperature until desired ripeness is reached.
  • Ripe pears can be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to five days.

 SERVING YOUR PEARS:

  • Prep For Cooking: Pear skin will darken and toughen when heated, so remove skin before cooking.
