The Save Mart store at the Key West Shopping Center in Visalia teamed up with Momentum Broadcasting to hold a food drive from Sunday, November 19 to 21. All donations went directly to FoodLink of Tulare County. “What people don’t realize is one in three residents doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from,” said Sarah Ramirez, the food bank’s Executive Director.

More than 3,000 pounds of food was collected, thanks to the generosity of the community. Save Mart made it easy by preparing bags of food that customers can purchase all at once and place in the donation bins. Momentum’s radio stations, KJUG, KIOO, HITZ & MY97.5, were on the air for 37 hours, encouraging listeners to make someone’s holiday brighter by donating.

The Save Mart C.A.R.E.S. Foundation used the food drive as a backdrop to present a grant for $7,500. Hunger is a problem all year long, and the funds will help sponsor healthy cooking classes next year for families on a budget. Last year, the Foundation helped the food bank purchase a delivery truck.
